Description Components of a fuel pump of an aeroengine were sent to the laboratory for analysis. Examination revealed that the failure of the quill shaft took place by torsional overload. The seizure in the fuel pump led to excessive load on the quill shaft leading to failure. Analysis showed that the most probable reason for the seizure of the fuel pump is the ingression of foreign particles in the annular space between the driving gear and the front plate.
