Description A failed nose wheel of an aircraft was forwarded to the laboratory for analysis. Examination revealed that the wheel hub has failed by fatigue. There were multiple fatigue crack origins. Evidences suggest that these fatigue cracks were initiated at corrosion pits on the fillet of the outer face of the rim. The corrosion appears to have resulted due to damage to the surface protective layer during usage. No metallurgical abnormalities were found responsible for the failure.
