Description |
An exhaust valve with brownish marks on the crown face was sent to the laboratory for investigation. Analysis showed that these brownish marks are nothing but oxide layers/rust marks. Compositional analysis indicated presence of substantial amount of chlorine (as high as 3.4 wt%) in these regions. Therefore, inference can be drawn that the presence of chlorine might have led to oxidation on the crown face of the valve.
