Description Metallurgical investigation was carried out on the tubes of rocket pods to identify whether or not there was any degradation in the tube material over the years. A detailed study was carried out with regard to microstructure, chemical composition and hardness of the tubes. The results obtained were compared with those of the new unused tubes. The study does not show any noticeable differences between the tubes that are being used/ stored over the years and the new unused ones. From the results, the inference is drawn that no degradation in the tube material was responsible for the rocket burst in the rocket pods.
