Description Two fractured bolts belonging to an aircraft engine removal ground equipment were brought to the laboratory for analyzing the cause of failure. Investigation revealed that both the bolts have failed by static overload. Analysis shows that the most probable reason for the failure is over-tightening of the bolts. It appears that a minimum tightening of the bolts would suffice the requirements for the present application and hence it is recommended to avoid over tightening of the bolts.
