A new series of linked heterocyclics, 5-(1<i style="">H</i>-benzo[<i style="">d</i>]imidazol-2-yl-methyl)-3-(3-methyl-5-[(<i style="">E</i>)-2-phenyl-1-ethenyl]-4-iso­xazol­yl)-2-aryl-1,3-thiazolan-4-ones <b style="">4</b> and 3-{3-methyl-5-[(<i style="">E</i>)-2-phenyl-1-ethenyl]-4-isoxazolyl}-5-(2-oxo-2<i style="">H</i>-3-chromenyl)-2-ar­yl-1,3-thiazolan-4-ones <b style="">5</b> have been synthesized by the cyclo­condensation of 4-benzalamino-3-methyl-5-styrylisoxazole <b style="">2</b> with mercapto succinic acid followed by cyclization with 1,2-phenylenediamines or salicylaldehydes. Structures of all the newly synthesized compounds <b style="">3-5</b> have been confirmed by spectral and micro analytical data.
