Description |
A failed tachometer generator bolt was analyzed. Fractographic features revealed that the bolt has fractured by overload at about 30 mm from the bolt head and at the last thread region. There were no evidences of delayed failure like fatigue. No metallurgical and/or mechanical abnormalities appear to be responsible for the failure. With the available information, it was not possible to establish the cause of excessive load on the bolt. This needs to be established and the corrective measures incorporated to prevent recurrence of similar failure.
