Description |
Splitting & slicing method, a traditional method of extraction of pillars of coal seams has been associated with ground control problems in complex geomining conditions. Thus, strata behaviour monitoring by field instrumentation/visual observations ins common practice during extraction of pillars to take measures for safety of workers and workings. An attempt was made in this paper to present the stress distribution monitoring at govinda colliery during extraction of pillars (22.8m x 22.8m size) in 3m thick seam at 40m depth cover. Results of the numerical models are compared with the field observations.
The stress over pillars within 50 m from the goaf line after splitting of the pillar was 4.87kg/cm2. Maximum change in stress over rib reached up to 4rh i.e. about 38 kg/cm2 near the goaf edge.
