Description The object of diminishing self-heating tendency by inhibitors, can be explained by the theory of catalytic oxidation of micro-elements in the coal mass. The research was founded on the new theories and hypothesis on self oxidation of coal. The paper presents results of laboratory studies to develop and test suitable inhibitors to inhibit the spontaneous heating characteristics of coal. Few inorganic chemicals have been applied on coal of RII/III seam of Raniganj Coalfield, ECL to study their effect on its spontaneous heating characteristics. On the basis of experiments it is clear that 25% aqueous solution of MgCl2 was very effective in inhibiting the spontaneous heating characteristic of this sample.
