Description Glycoproteins are one of the most intriguing paradigms of modern cellular expeditions. The uncanny behaviours of these “hybrid” proteins have baffled cell biologists for a long time. However, the second half of this century has witnessed a renewed interest among biochemists and biologists from a wide range of fields. This increased interest owes to their abundance in living organisms and the diverse functions involved therein. Especially, during the last decade, there have been enormous advances in our knowledge of glycoproteins and the stage has been set for the biotechnological production of many of them for therapeutic as well as other industrial uses.
