Description |
Bord and pillar method of mining is predominantly practiced for production of coal from underground Indian mines. In this system of mining, problem of self heating and fire are commonly noticed, particularly in coal pillars lying between main intake and return of the ventilation circuit. The problems of fire in coal pillars were noticed after 1960 in Nimcha, Jambad-Kajora and pandaveshwar area of Raniganj Coalfield. The problem is gradually increasing with increasing ventilation pressure of the mine. In order to avoid such problems the authors are carrying out a study funded by Ministry of coal, Government of India to work out proper actions in advance to prevent the heating in coal pillars. For this purpose one pillar at 1 and 2 L in between 2 D and 3 D, nearby the pit bottom of Satgram Project of Raniganj Coalfield has been selected. This pillar is selected due to its typical geomining condition. There is persistence of a fault in this pillar and high ventilation pressure difference exists across it. In this paper an attempt has been made to discuss about heating pattern in coal pillar on the basis of variation of CO2, 02 and blackdamp concentration with time.
