Description An objective model for estimation of spontaneous fire risk index of underground panels in bord and pillar method of mining where extraction is carried out with hydropneumatic sand stowing is presented in this paper. It describes vividly the fire risk indexing technique applied to each of the major mining parameters that can influence underground fire and finally it estimates the overall fire risk index of the concerned panel. The model is tested with field data collected from different collieries across the country. Some results showing the applicability of the model are also cited here.
