The mechanisms of supply of dissolved inorganic nitrogen and the kinetics of
its utilization are believed to play a critical role in determining the productivity, size
structure, and species succession of phytoplankton communities in much of the
world’s oceans. This report gives a review of the studies carried out at C-MMACS to
date on the nutrient uptake kinetics for marine phytoplankton in a multiple nutrient
environment.
