Description |
Unrefined groundnut oil containing aflatoxin ( greater than 100 mug/kg) was exposed to (i) bright sunlight, (ii) gas-filled tungsten lamp, or (iii) long wave UV light. (i) destroyed 99% of the toxin present in 15 min, whereas (ii) and (iii) destroyed 82-85% of toxin in 18 h and 30-40% of toxin in 2 h exposure. The photolysed oil was not toxic to albino rats, and its absorption peak was shifted from 700 nm to 280 nm after exposure to sunlight.
