Description |
Fucoxanthin (FUCO), a xanthophyll carotenoid is photo-, and thermo-labile and
poorly bioavailable due to its lipophilicity. Stability and bioavailability of FUCO can be
improved by its encapsulation with a suitable polymer matrix and specific lipid. Hence,
nanoencapsulated FUCO was prepared using chitosan (CS) - sodium tripolyphosphate
(TPP) - glycolipid (GL) multifaceted system (CS-NGs) by means of ionic gelation
method. It was hypothesized that nanoencapsulated FUCO in CS-NGs+GL matrix may
favour its intestinal uptake and intracellular trafficking with no toxicity. It was aimed that
GL and FUCO may be an agonist to PPARĪ³ and SRB1 which may result in active
intestinal uptake of FUCO besides passive uptake.
