Description Pesticide use has improved both efficiency of growing fruits and vegetables as well as the quality offruit produced. Consumer groups in general are demanding assurance from the agricultural community that the fruits and vegetables weeat are indeed safe. As a response to this concern, 40 samples offruils andvegetab/es wera collected from in and around Mysore markets and analysed for the possible contaminants of organophosphate insecticide residues using gas chromatography. GC-FPID analysis showed the presence of three organophosphate insecticides. me/hyl pafathion, quinalphos and ChlOfPyriphos residues_ Out of 40 sample analysed, 29 of them showed Ihe conlamination .. Methy/parathion residuesdelectedin apple and grape samples in the range of 0.049mg kg-' to O. 157 mg kg-'. Ouinalphos was detected in grapes. tomato, apple and cauliflower samples, Grapes had conCenlfalion of quinalphos in Ihe 0.049 mg kg-' 10 O. 157 mg kg-' Quinalphos was delecled in grapes, tomato. apple and cauliflower samples, Grapes had concentration of quina/ph as in the range 010.0471 mg kg' to 1.213mg kg', similarly in tomato Ihe concentration was in the range of 0.033 mg kg-' to 1. 135 mg kg" and 0.010 mg kg" to 0.112 mg kg-' concentration was noticed in apples, finally cauliflower sample recorded the level of O. 0261 mg kg-'. Chlorpyriphos was detected in apple samples which ranged from 0_209 mg kg-' to 0.381 mg kg-'. These findings indicates Ihat pesticides applied in fruits and vegetables were conlaminated and are with below MRL levels. The results also can help in risk assessment of consumer e)(posures 10 the e)(pected pesticide residues
