Description Utilization of a combination of spot diam. and visual extinction methods on micro-TLC slides for rapid detection and quantitative estimation of chlorinated insecticides is studied. The spots were visualized by spraying with 1% o-toluidine/acetone solution. The min. quantities detectable are (mu): DDE 0.3; DDT 0.02; DDD 0.25; lindane 0.02; aldrin 0.25; endrin 0.15; BHC 0.02; captan 0.015. The colours of the spots at concn. of 0.02-0.2 mug, 0.2-2.5 mug and 2.5-10 mug are given. The error was 3-5%. Spot diam. was found to be directly proportional to concn. between 1-6 mug for DDT (diam. 0.22-0.7 cm), 1-7 mug for DDD, DDE and DDA (diam. 0.2-0.6 mm), and 1-4 mug for aldrin, dieldrin and endrin (diam. 0.1-0.6 mm), and for captan (diam. 0.2-0.5 mm). The error was 4-5.7mu. The method is used to determine pesticide residues in treated wheat samples. Recovery of 50 mg added lindane, DDT or captan was 90-92%.
