Description Pons's method for detn. of aflatoxin B1 has been modified by eliminating column clean up and by introducing an additional TLC development in ether + hexane (1:1). Aqueous acetone extract is diluted to contain 25% acetone which expedites filtration and improves the clarity of the filtrate. Recovery of aflatoxin added to groundnut flake, groundnut cake and corn was 83-107%. Quantification of aflatoxin B1 in naturally contaminated commercial groundnut cake by the modified method compared well with that obtained by the Contaminants Branch method.
